Is it safe, does it melt or burn plastic or give off fumes? And can I just buy the SPC outright?Updated 10 days ago

On safety: the SPC does not melt or burn plastic — it uses gentle heat and pressure to soften pieces just enough to bind them into a block. Independent lab testing confirmed that no harmful gases or VOCs exceed safety limits during operation. It's tested safe for indoor use, consumes only about 3.3 kWh per month (roughly $0.52), and includes motion and pressure sensors that stop the rollers instantly if they detect an obstruction.

On buying outright: at this time the SPC is offered in the U.S. only through the subscription model — which includes the device, prepaid mailers, and the verified recycling service — rather than as a standalone purchase, because the real value is the ongoing recycling pathway, not just the hardware. (If you're outside the U.S., the subscription and recycling service aren't available yet, though local manual-compactor alternatives exist.)
